360Fashion Network Bring Raffles Sydney to China Graduate Fashion Week 2014

360Fashion Network is proud to have supported Raffles College of Design and Commerce (Sydney) to come to China as the first international school to participate in the China Graduate Fashion Week 2014.

With Grace, Raffles Shakes the China Graduate Fashion Week 2014

(Beijing, China) On 26th which is the official foreign institute cooperating with China Graduate Fashion Week 2014, had eight of its young alumni designers launch their creative works during the fashion week. This is also the designers’ first showcase of their SS collections after the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia in early April.

As the first overseas college of design, the Raffles’ event series also included a reception celebrating Australia-China Fashion Industry Collaboration; an open forum titled “Inspire.Imagine. Invent – Creating a Fashion Language”; and five scholarships worth over RMB 300,000.

Highlight 1: The Up and Rising Young Designers

This was the first appearance of the Australian Raffles College of Design and Commerce in China. All eight young designers graduated from the college, including Fatima Eunji Asanovski、Gabriel Lee、Ayaka Ichikawa、Peggy Hartanto、Stephanie Chau、Sheriene Cheng 、Emma MacGregor, and Rebecca Chen. For the fashion week, they brought along the hottest SS collection just off the runway of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Compared to fashion from Europe and the US, Aussie style is known for its personality and creativity. Dynamic cultural backgrounds are interwoven which shapes the unique designs from Australia. Fashionable, avant-grade young designers themselves shed also new light to the event. The new generation of fashion designers from Raffles has been featured at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia for three consecutive years. Their works are full of passion and imagination, capturing much attention, and their works have grown into an important force. Among the eight designers, Fatima Eunji Asanovski、Gabriel Lee、Ayaka Ichikawa、and Peggy Hartanto have established their own brands which have been well received among celebrities from Hollywood and international fashion circles. The experience of studying at Raffles has inspired them to merge eastern and western cultural elements into their design works, thus strongly influencing their credibility as they enter the international fashion stage.

Highlight 2: Substantial Scholarships Supporting Chinese Students Further Studies Overseas

As the official foreign institute cooperating with the China Graduate Fashion Week 2014, Raffles is joining hands with the China Fashion Designers Association to support and encourage young designers in gaining opportunities to study overseas. Raffles offers Chinese students scholarships of over RMB 300,000, as well as one full scholarship and four half scholarships for post -baccalaureate studies. The winners will be announced at the 19th Annual Awards for New Designers in Fashion Design in China. Since 2011, Raffles has organized showcases four times at the well-known Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia, presenting works by a number of Raffle alumni designers. “Raffles is committed to creating a broader platform and more intercollegiate exchange opportunities for its students. We support our students who have been fully trained in an international teaching environment in order to gain their professional fashion design skills one step faster. Our graduates have the ability to take on sole responsibility for organizing branded work launch on the international stage,” said Nicholas Comino, Program Director of Fashion Design Department, Raffles College of Design and Commerce in Australia.

Highlight 3: Ramped-up Exchange of Fashion Industries in Australia and China

The Raffles College of Design and Commerce in Australia is the first college from overseas to participate in the China Graduate Fashion Week. The college was created to promote cooperation in the areas of fashion brands, fashion design, and tertiary education for the fashion and model agency business, so as to further deepen exchange within the industry. This brings significance in constructing an overall fashion image in Asia in particular.

Raffles has been paying attention to the growing fashion market in China. “Cultural blending has made fashion design outstanding. The new generation of designers dares to mix world trends with locally unique fashion resources, leading them into growing new styles,” expressed Comino.
